Disabled Student Support
 

Universities and colleges welcome applications from disabled people and provide a complete service of support.

Many students do not realise that they are entitled to support or what the range of support might be. Disability covers not only physical and sensory impairments but also mental health difficulties, medical conditions such as MS, ME, asthma and other specific learning difficulties such as dyslexia, dyspraxia, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and asperger syndrome. If you are in doubt about who is eligible for support, contact us for more information.

Universities and colleges offer a range of support through the application process and during your study. This includes:

• support at interviews or open days
• diagnostic assessments for dyslexia and dyspraxia
• accredited assessment centres
• advice and guidance services
• dyslexia/dyspraxia service
• deaf service (including British sign language (BSL) interpreters; note-takers and electronic note-takers)
• mental health service
• a network of professional support workers co-ordinated and trained in-house
• assistive technology advice and training

Most universities and colleges welcome the opportunity to discuss in confidence what support might be available to potential applicants and what they need to do to obtain support in higher education.
